X Games ready to take on football, baseball, and the world

Ask any sports fan and they'll tell you that one of the more enjoyable elements of being a die-hard is arguing with your buddies about who is the very best. Whether it's the best team, the best player, the best play….it's the perfect barroom conversation or backyard BBQ debate. Who is number 1 on the awesometer? Friendships can be strained. Brother can turn against brother. It's the type of heat and energy that epitomizes the X Games attitude.

In another incredible display of talent, focus, and determination by some of the world's gutsiest athletes, X Games 15 has just completed another historic run in LA (July 30-Aug 3) highlighting the very best in disciplines ranging from skateboarding (Vert and Street), FMX, BMX, Rally car, to Motocross. The historic event, sponsored by ESPN since its inception, invited back many heroes from the past to join the record setters of today's competition. These summer events follow on the heels of January's winter spectacular. It was another incredible spectacle chock-full of jaw dropping tricks and the very best rivalries found in sports today.

So now let the war of words begin on who are the all-time kings of the most exhilarating, dangerous, and steely- nerved action sports happening on the planet today.

Can any discussion of the X Games not have Shaun White's name near the top of the awesometer? How about Tanner Hall? When White won his 7th career gold medal at Winter Games 13 this year, it was Tanner's (Winter) mark that he tied. White has now upped the ante to 9 career golds. Then there's Andy MacDonald and his 15 gold medals in skateboarding. His latest win allowed him to pass uber-legend Tony Hawk. How many awesometer moments and medals has Moto stud Travis Pastrana merited over the years? The list goes on-and-on…….Jeremy McGrath, Sarah Burke, Jamie Bestwick, Kyle Loza, Ricky Carmichael…..

The fact is, the X Games have launched the careers of numerous daredevil athletes that would never have made their way to mainstream consciousness without them. Legends such as Hawk and MacDonald can be celebrated and debated over in the same way that football fans compare Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. The way baseball fans compare Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols. Now in its 15th year of competition, X Games has muscled its way into that stratosphere of sporting competition that has fans reminiscing about the very best performers and performances ever.

Quite a journey for a small group of extreme sports that ESPN believed had a decent enough following to band them together in an Olympic games format and televise to a global audience. Remember when bungee jumping was an event in the earliest games? This year the games introduced two new summer events: Skateboard Big Air Rail Jam and Skateboard Park Legends. Multi-medalist Danny Way took the inaugural title on the Big Air Rail Jam. He actually created the competition when his moves in other events went beyond the established scoring parameters and difficulty levels.

So how long will it be until you're sitting on a stool at your local pub arguing with your drinking partner again about the best athlete in the world and the usual names are being put forth? Tiger Woods. Michael Phelps. Usain Bolt.

Who will be the first one brave enough to slam their fist on the bar and announce with all the confidence and bravado in the world------------Danny Way ! Creator and inaugural winner of the Big Air Rail Jam ! And a perfect 10 on the X Games awesometer !
